What should I do if I have not taken the citizenship test?/Canadian Days

▪︎ The steps you will need to take if you did not take your citizenship test differ depending on whether we sent you:

. a first notice to take the exam,

. a final notice to take the exam, or

. a notice of re -examination.

I received a first notice to take the exam

If this is the first time you have been asked to take the exam, you can:

. contact us to let us know that you have not taken the exam or

. wait to receive a new exam date which will be sent to you automatically.

▪︎ Contact us
You have 30 days from the date of the exam to contact us and advise us of the reason why you were not present. Write a letter explaining why you did not take the exam and send this letter to the IRCC office that made your initial appointment. You can send this letter by mail or online, using this web form .
The local office processing your application will determine if the reason you were not present for the exam is valid.
If your reason is valid, we will send you another notice to invite you to a new exam date. (This new notice will be considered another first notice in the event that you also cannot attend on this new date, but you have a valid reason.)
If your reason is not valid, we will do the same as we do for people who do not show up for the exam and do not contact us. (See "New Date Set Automatically", below.)

▪︎ New date set automatically

We will automatically set a new exam date if you have not taken the exam and:

. you have not contacted us to notify us or

. you have not provided a valid reason to justify your absence from the exam.

A new notice will be sent to you to inform you of the new exam date. This will be the final opinion .
The new exam date is usually scheduled for at least two weeks after the date of the exam for which you did not take.

▪︎ I received a final notice for the exam, but I was unable to attend

You must contact us within 30 days of the exam date if you:

. did not attend the first exam,

. have received a final notice for the review and
. also did not take this exam.

The notice to invite you to the exam includes the information you need to contact us.
The local office processing your application will determine if the reason you were not present for the exam is valid.
If your reason is valid, we will send you another final notice with a new review date.
We may close your citizenship application if:

. you do not contact us within 30 days or

. you have not provided a valid reason to justify your absence from the exam.

You will need to reapply for citizenship and pay the required fees.

You failed the exam and were called for a second exam

You must contact us within 30 days of the exam date if:

. you failed the citizenship test on your first attempt,

. you have been called for the exam again and

. have not taken this exam.

The notice to re-invite you to the exam includes the information you need to contact us.
The local office processing your application will determine if the reason you were not present for the exam is valid.
If your reason is valid, we will send you another notice with a new review date.
We may close your citizenship application if:

. you do not contact us within 30 days or
