Revolution - between faith and atheism
After my last visit to Paris in the time machine, I found myself putting my notes and recording the events that I saw, which make the contradiction in the scene between what we see today of great progress in human rights and urbanization in the enormous democratic handling of political affairs and the elimination of slavery and the sanctification of freedom and justice - Look for serious abuses sometimes here and there) - which much of it is attributed to the French Revolution and to the painful and bloody events of those days, which I recorded in my previous time journey. The question that arises strongly in my mind is how we reconcile the French Revolution as the symbol of liberty and equality. We must understand more about travel time machine and meet people belonging to the various components of that era as we agreed in the previous article.
The time machine takes us down to the same period and place.
Paris, at the top of its revolution, groups of people walking without guidance, revolting, passing in front of a church, at its gate someone watching with the features of wisdom and culture appear on him, I decided to go to try to ask him "what is happening?"
- Welcome, my friend.. Welcome. - Do you allow me to stand here far from the people?
Definitely, it seems to me that you are a stranger?
"I'm a passer-by from Greece. I landed in Paris for some work, and then I found myself in front of a great hustle I was trying to understand".
-Welcome, you came at a very dangerous time. It's the revolution, my dear.
-And is the church satisfied with it?
- Certainly not! how has it been so revolutionary while leaders have declared their hostility to the Church?
- So, are not they believers?
- For sure! they are believers.
- You have despaired me, please explain to me and I will listen to you without interruption.
Then listen to me dear stranger, the clerics were the first class in society under the throne of the French kingdom. They had wide power, all in the name of the Lord, and the poor and weary people were the ones who paid the price. A percentage of the taxes went directly to the clerics, which made them hated by the miserable people, who work and produce as they take their effort. According to the revolution, they became part of the problem and a fundamental pillar of corruption, which must be get rid of. So Voltaire says, "Hang the last king with the bowels of the last priest."
"So the Revolution took the money of the Church and considered that wealth to be the property of the people.
The clerics considered government employees as civilians and cut off their subordination to the church and demanded that the oath be given to the civil constitution.
- My friend, why are they being killed now? Does the revolution deny religion and reject faith?
- No, dear stranger.. revolution supported by many monks such as the rebellious monk Sieyes to reject injustice to the people. But as per faith, the leaders of the revolution are not enemies of faith, but they reject the mainstream religion that has become part of injustice and corruption and its existence is useless in lifting this injustice. Listen to the speeches of revolutionary leaders, Robespierre says,
He attributes the revolution and the republic to the will of God if it is faith in him and the fulfillment of the will of God as he believes and therefore he says (I believe in the existence of a God who is capable of keeping the oppressed innocent and punishing the wrongdoer)
Is not this a belief in God that the spirit of the revolution is full of faith? But the belief in God is the principles of freedom and equality and everyone has freedom of religion, but religion does not have the right to grant its men special authority. We want our community to live in diversity and not to accept to impose a specific religion.
A general moral system is to be imposed.
- Thank you my friend. The time has passed. The night is over. The dangerous situation requires us to stop here. I hope you allow me to explore your wisdom next time.
- The wise smiled: You are always welcome.
I went on my way back to my mind what the man had said and decided to give him an article in which he outlined the main features of all the above trips.
Stay tuned till next article.
