A Syrian Newcomer saves Canadian neighbouring family from townhouse fire.

Ayman Hawari saved a family by preventing a kitchen fire from spreading further on June 5th at midnight on his neighborhood at Oscar Peterson Blvd. Residents in a Mississauga townhouse complex are calling their neighbor "a hero" after he saved a neighbouring family by putting out a pot fire that was on the edge of spreading out of control.

On Wednesday evening, June 5th, Ayman Hawari, a newcomer from Syria was at a friend's house when the fire broke out in a townhouse nearby. Hawari says: “I’m happy (to be called a hero), but it was a natural action and something I had to do regardless of what might happen,” Hawari said through a friend translator called Mr. Amer Haffar, A small pot fire broke out in the middle of a complex on Oscar Peterson Boulevard, where Hawari lives with his wife and children.

Mr. Hawari's quick action was super courageous, he was able to extinguish the stove fire before it could reach the wall gas pipes in the kitchen and spread all over the house. "At the time, I was watching the Raptors game with my neighbor friend, Anas Sadeq and when the game was over, we smelled smoke,” Hawari said. “We went outside and I saw more smoke coming out of the townhouse windows. I rushed to look inside through the windows and I was shocked when I saw the fire flames in the kitchen.” "I hardly tried getting the attention of the family inside the townhouse by repeatedly knocking on their front door. When they didn't answer, I tried to break through the front door, which was locked.

Then I was able to gain entry after jumping on the balcony and then immediately removed the pot that was on fire on the stove. after that I rushed to wake up the married couple and their two sons after they had fallen asleep forgetting the cooking pot on the stove. The housewife, Sarosh Imran, thought she had turned off the stove before going to bed, but said the stove button got stuck on high instead. Later on, fire fighters arrived at the scene and evacuated the residents of three families, out of the complex, who were hosted in Hawari's house for a couple of hours before everything was clear and became normal.

"The whole house was full of smoke, you couldn't see anything," said Imran, who has lived at the complex for about four years. "If (Hawari) hadn't (stopped the fire), things would have been much different than what they are right now." Ayman Hawari, who recently started a spice wholesale business in Mississauga ON. came to Canada from Damascus Syria in 2018.

Mrs. Imran is friends with Hawari's wife and her children are around the same age as Hawaris'.
